May Curriculum Picks for a Unit Study Homeschool Family
I used to be so much better about homeschool planning, and sharing about what we are doing. Then we ended up moving to a new house in a rush last year, and 3 surgeries later (2 for me and 1 for my toddler) I am FINALLY ready to get back to being more organized. Let's do this!!
My kiddos are 3.5, 9, and almost 11. My 9 year old really has been wanting to study the Renaissance again, because he loves Knights and Castles! We have been very slowly but surely moving our products from our last website over to this one (long story), and we finally re-uploaded our Renaissance unit!! So without further adieu... Curriculum picks for May as a homeschooling unit study family!
Curriculum picks for History, and Handwriting:
The Renaissance History Unit Bundle. We will be using the teacher's guide as a spine, and reading several of the books. This first week or so, our goal is The Magic Tree House: The Knight at Dawn, because it is just such a classic. We have read or listened to it so many times, and we all still love it so much! After that, we will be doing The Imagination Station: The Red Knight, or possibly a Who Was book on Knights and Castles. Honestly? We intend to just go suuuuuper with the flow right now.
The bundle also includes book guides for those books that I mentioned, so that is what they will be doing for handwriting. Each chapter has a page that goes along with it, with some sort of K is for Knight, question, and place to write a narration. You could also just use the narration notebook that comes along with the regular unit study.

Curriculum Picks for Math:
We actually use Math Mammoth for our main curriculum right now, because I didn't have the energy to keep creating math programs. We do have Math books for K-3rd grade, but my 3rd grader wanted to do the same math as my 5th grader. So after MUCH searching, we settled on Math Mammoth.
But, it is also garden season here. So we are going to be using our Life Skills Math in the Garden curriculum as well!
Curriculum Picks for Preschool:
We will be using Our Loving Preschool- specifically the Hands on ABC guide, Trace and Find pages, and Flashcards. We generally only do a little bit each day, or 3-4 times a week. He also gets to choose some of his tracing books, which I can link below as well. Because he is only 3, we just let him guide where he wants to go with this.

I also had some people ask about our basic schedule, so here it is. (We are also doing poetry and spelling, but I haven't created what we are using yet)
Our basic homeschool schedule:
8-9am: Everyone wakes up, gets ready, and has breakfast.
9-10am: Morning chores and morning walk
10-11:30am: School
- First we start with our read aloud, or educational tv show. This month it's going to be our read alouds, either I will be reading, or we will be listening to it on YouTube.
- Next, they will do their narrations orally. I record these in Trello, our online portfolio.
- Handwriting comes after- this month that will be in the book guides!
- We are then going to do our top secret poetry and spelling, which I promise I will tell you about later.
- Math is last! They usually are able to do most math independently, and also simultaneously. This week they are both starting new chapters, so I will do it with one or the other first.
- If it is preschool day, or my toddler is wanting to do preschool, we will then do 10ish minutes of preschool work! Letter D-G is the goal for May.
